I am very pleased with the results that I ended with when I completed the Butlers tray last week
The result from book matching the boards for the tray bottom actually blew me away with how it ended up looking once oiled and waxed and although it did take a lot of careful planing, sanding and elbow grease I think it was well worth the effort
Sometimes when working with wood you do come across a very detailed grain pattern in a board and it would otherwise go to waste if it were used as normal but having the opportunity of using such a piece when it can be shown off to its best really does make me wonder if I should keep a special storage area for pieces like this in the workshop to be used when a project being made like the Butlers tray lends itself
I have never seen such a beautiful and perfect book matched piece of wood in 30 years of working in this industry
Pieces of wood like this with true beauty are never appreciated unless they are used in this way – it is the most amazing part of nature
After making this piece I decided to make another Butlers tray which I painted using Farrow and Ball eggshell to show how different the effects can be when you add colour – here I have used Light Blue
I am looking forward to my next project and hope you will join me again 🙂
