Phase three of the bench construction for my client near Rock in Cornwall. Read about phase 1 here, or phase 2 here.
The benches are all glued up now and ready for the finishing process and then the seats to be fixed on to them.
This has been quite a challenging little project due to the multiple angles of the seat ends being 5 degrees in both directions, which meant that the top seat supports had to be cut at 5 degrees to accept the seats so they are level with the floor
I have used Accoya timber here as it is a very stable timber and takes a paint finish extremely well, i chose scandinavian redwood for the seats as i knew that when i gave it the blowtorch treatment i would get the desired effect from this type of timber, all the joints are modern mortice and tenons and i have used Titebond premium glue because its the best glue I’ve ever used and now tend to use it for everything
I always enjoy taking a customers brief and bringing it to life in a drawing and then again when making the piece required, the nice bit is seeing the process taking shape with all its elements coming together – there is a real pleasure taking the sawn timber and machining them in the first instance and when the piece is handed over i always look back to this stage in my mind as i have watched it evolve
