About

I’m a traditional craftsman and a true Cornishman, with deep roots in this land of extraordinary natural beauty and culture that I call home.

A passion for woodwork, and an intense care for detail, have driven me to hone my skills over the last 30 years.

Operating from my home-based workshop in St Merryn, near Padstow, on Cornwall’s north coast

Everything I create is individual, handcrafted and Cornish through and through.

Woodwork: A life’s calling

Passion for the craft

My lifelong passion for creating with wood was ignited back in the 1980s, while working alongside a master carpenter in a local building company. I love the challenge of turning rough wood into functional pieces and take great pleasure from tackling the difficult projects that others avoid.

Guaranteed satisfaction

Every detail matters

My keen eye for detail brings out unique twists in the design, making your bespoke pieces even more special. It also ensures everything is precisely as you requested. Whether it’s a table, a built in shelving unit, a bench or something more unusual, I won’t rest until you are totally satisfied.

Your vision fulfilled

Traditional or Modern

My work is steeped in tradition but I’m just as happy creating furniture with a modern look and feel. My wife Caroline is a great source of additional ideas, inspiration and fresh perspectives on this. Contact me today to start your personalised journey from idea to reality.

I inherited a family heirloom in the shape of a very exhausted looking but wonderful arts and craft oak fire surround however much to my horror it proved to be 12 inches too short to fit my fireplace

I found Richards website which impressed me so I made contact and arranged a day to drive to Cornwall with my fire surround in the back of my SUV and was greeted on arrival with Tea and saffron cake

There was a problem though as the surround needed to be 12 inches longer and I new it would be impossible to get it in the car for the return journey and left that dilemma with Richard - he turned up trumps by making two extra panels that slotted in once I got back to Wiltshire and I have asked various friends if they can see the joins and no one can believe it - you wouldn’t know

He also fixed the broken bits and restored it back to life

I can wholeheartedly record Richard’s workmanship along with his friendliness
